Climate
Colombia has great climatic diversity due to its varied topography. The coastal and low-lying regions have a tropical climate with warm temperatures all year round. Mountainous regions, such as the Andes, can have more temperate or cold climates depending on altitude. The eastern plains are hot and humid, while the Amazon is hot and humid with frequent rain. The Eje Cafetero region has a temperate climate with moderate rainfall.
In some large cities such as Bogotá, Medellín and Cartagena, tap water is generally safe to drink. However, in rural areas and small towns, it is preferable to consume bottled water to avoid possible health problems.
For tours in Colombia, it is advisable to wear comfortable and versatile clothing, suitable for the different climatic conditions of the country. Opt for light, breathable layers like t-shirts and light pants for hot, humid areas, and pack warmer layers like sweatshirts or light jackets for mountainous, cool regions. Footwear should be comfortable and sturdy, such as trekking shoes or sports shoes, for walking and hiking. Don't forget a hat, sunglasses and sunscreen to protect you from the sun.
To travel to Colombia, no special vaccinations are required for Italian tourists. However, it is strongly recommended to get vaccinated against yellow fever if you plan to visit rural or tropical areas, such as the Amazon rainforest, the border regions with Brazil and Venezuela, and some parts of the Atlantic coast. Additionally, it is advisable to be up to date with routine vaccinations, such as those against tetanus, diphtheria, polio, and hepatitis A and B. Before traveling, consult your doctor or an international vaccination center for up-to-date recommendations and specific based on your travel itinerary.
